Chapter Fourteen: Izzie’s Relationships:

-Upper East Side-

Maggie, Naomi, Shasha, Liz, Shane, Kate, Elle, Carmen, Hayley, Jane, and Lily sat in Kate’s living room.

“When are Izzie and Dianne coming?” Jane asked.

“About thirty minutes or so,” Kate said.

“Tell me again,” Lily said. “Who is Izzie dating again– Kris or Dianne?”

“Both of them,” Kate said. The older woman gave her an odd look.

“What?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Elle said. “She’s polyamorous.” Lily raised her eyebrow.

“How does that even work?” she asked.

“She just dates them both, I guess,” Liz said. Her tone didn’t sound so certain. All of the women looked at each other. Jane had the same confused expression on her face.

“What?” she asked. The younger women looked amongst each other.  Who would be the first one to speak?

“Well…” Maggie said. She looked around for some back up.

“Take a seat, honey,” Lily said.

“Izzie is bisexual,” Naomi started off. “And she’s polyamorous.”

“So she’s dating two people right now?” Jane asked.

“Yes,” the younger women said.

“How does she even manage that?” Lily asked.

“That’s what we’ve been trying to figure out for years,” Shasha said. “I’m amazed that Kris and Dianne are able to stay with her that long.”

“Kris is the soldier boy, right?” Lily asked.

“Yeah,” Kate said.

“What does Dianne do again?” the old lady asked.

“Journalist,” Liz said.

“I see,” Lily said.

“Don’t get us wrong, we get the bisexual part,” Hayley said. “We just don’t get the polyamorous part.”

“Didn’t Izzie date someone before Kris and Dianne?” Shane asked.

“I think her name was Sabine or Sabrina,” Naomi said after some thinking.

“Oh yeah,” Carmen said. “She was crazy.”

“Can you blame her?” Liz asked. All eyes fell on her. The chubby woman shrugged.

“What?” she asked. “I’m not wrong! If I dated Izzie, I would go crazy too!”

“But Sabrina was already crazy from the beginning,” Maggie said.

“Didn’t she try and stalk Izzie a while back?” Shasha asked. “Or is that someone else I’m thinking of?”

“It probably is,” Shane said.

“Wait, she’s driven that many lovers crazy?” Jane asked.

“Come on now,” Kate said. “I wouldn’t say that many. She’s up front about it at least.”

“Yeah,” the younger women said.

“Liz, how did Dianne take hearing about Izzie being polyamorous?” Shasha asked. “Did she flip out?”

“Oh yes!” Liz said. “She called me from the restaurant bathroom freaking out.”

“No way!” Hayley said with big eyes.

“That happened,” the chubby woman said. “Believe me.”

“And what about Kris?” Elle asked Kate.

“He wasn’t too happy about it,” Kate said.

“And they are all still together?” Hayley asked.

“Yes,” Liz and Kate said.

“Wow,” was all Shane could say.

“Yeah,” Carmen said at last. The women looked up when they heard the doorbell rang.

“Oh, speak of the devil,” Kate said. She stood up and walked over to the front door. She could see Izzie and Dianne out in the hallway, looking in. Kate unlocked the door and opened it.

“Izzie! Dianne!” she said. “How have you guys?”

“Good,” Dianne said. “Sorry, we are late. We were trying to get ready to come here.”

“Hey, I just had to put on this dress,” Izzie said, smoothing out the red and white skirt. “Did we miss anything?” Kate made herself smile.

“Nothing much,” she lied. The brunette with the high curly ponytail moved aside. Izzie and Dianne walked into the apartment. Kate closed the door behind them.
