City Lounge: New York (Book One, Chapter Fourteen: Morning Run)

Chapter Fourteen: Morning Run:

-Fort Drum Army Base, Jefferson-

Chris and his buddy, Norman, began their morning run.

“How’s it going, man?” Norman asked.

“Good, Kris said. “And you?”

“I’m good.”

Kris glanced out of the corner of his eye and noticed his pal trying to think of something to say. “What is it?”

“You still live those two women in Soho, yeah?” Norman asked.

“Sort of, why?”

“Well…”

They rounded the corner. Kris had a feeling he wasn’t going to enjoy where this conversation could possibly go. Might as well get it over with so that they could finish with their morning run for they turned in for their recruitment jobs.

“Well?” Kris asked.

“What exactly is your relationship with them?”

“Izzie is my girlfriend and Dianne is her girlfriend.”

“Huh?”

The white soldier puffed up his cheeks and breathed out. He always hated to explain this part. “You see, I am dating Izzie, right?”

“Right,” Norman said.

“Well, Izzie is also dating Dianne at the same time.”

Norman about stopped running and looked up at his pal. “Huh?”

“I am dating Izzie and Dianne is also dating Izzie too.”

“And are you and Dianne…”

Kris waved him off. “No, no, no, no! Dianne is a pretty lady, but she’ll never hook up with me because she’s gay.”

“And Izzie?”

“She’s bisexual and polyamorous.”

Norman tilted his head. “How does that work out?” His friend stretched his arms above his head before stretching his sides.

“That’s what Dianne and I are still trying to figure out,” Kris said.

“But which one is Izzie marrying?”

“Neither. She doesn’t want to get married.”

“Why not?”

“Doesn’t believe in it. Plus, she doesn’t want to have to choose one lover. That doesn’t suit Izzie.”

“What about kids?”

Kris made a face at his friend. “Do you really see her as a mother?”

“Good point. What about Diane?”

“She’s too focused on her career to even think about having kids.” Kris stared into the black solider’s intent eyes. Ever since he got involved with Izzie, his fellow soldiers always had questions about how it was to be in a bisexual relationship with a woman who didn’t believe in having just one lover at a time. Having to explain the basics of polyamory and Izzie’s relationships with him and Diane was starting to wear thin.

“If you want to know more about our arrangement, you will have to talk to Izzie and Diane yourself,” Kris said at last. “I can introduce you to them some time when I remember to.” Norman gave him a blank stare.

“Okay…” he said. The white soldier got back into running position.

“And no, there aren’t really any threesomes,” he added. “Diane will never sleep with me. We take turns sleeping with Izzie and it’s her choice of who she wants for the night. I don’t try to watch them when they have sex. I have respect for Izzie and Diane.” Kris resumed his jog on the track. Norman stood with his hands on hips as he tilted his head.

“Okay then…” he said. The black soldier resumed his own jog and caught up with his friend. Neither man spoke for the rest of their exercise before showering and going to work for the day.
