Controversial Album Covers V (Pt. 16)

Year: 1991

Tin Machine: Tin Machine II

The Problem: The original cover featured a row of four nude Kouroi. In the U.S. the genitalia of the statues were airbrushed out, leading band member David Bowie to exclaim, “Only in America!”

My Take: Not really a surprise considering David Bowie’s involved. Other than that, I don’t know what else to add. Anyone else want to contribute? Anyone? Anyone? Okay then…

Geto Boys: We Can’t Be Stopped

The Problem: The cover features a graphic picture of member Bushwick Bill, with a bleeding eye, being wheeled down a hospital corridor on a gurney with the other two Geto Boys flanking him. The album cover both references and bears resemblance to the incident where Bill had shot himself in the eye after his girlfriend refused to shoot him during an altercation.

My Take: Uh… what’s the point of having this? Just… why?
